Going to Fribourg, Switzerland, and hoping for a good farmers market? You’re in luck. The fresh market here runs three mornings per week and, at least on Saturdays, has a large spread (70 vendors, or so they say).

So, how do you get there? When should you go? And what will you find?

Here’s the skinny:

How to get to the Fribourg market

On Saturday, the market is held at Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville. From the train station, it’s a short (5 minute-ish) walk.

There’s also a Wednesday market at Place Georges-Python and a Friday market at Route de la Gruyère à Beaumont. I went on Saturday and can’t vouch for the other two days, so they may be smaller markets.

When to go

Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings, the market starts at 6:30 a.m. and runs to noon.

What to expect

Cheese, meats, olives, spreads, jams, veggies, fruits, plants, breads, pastries, and prepared foods.

Language

French is the official language here, but we’re right near the German part of Switzerland you’ll hear lots of German around as well. Some vendors will speak English.
